Sorry but a present is a present.

Player 1: "Hey wanna buy my present?"
Player 2: "No, presents are for free or it wouldn't be a present anymore."
Player 1: "But it's a Crystalline 15^50 blabla..."
Player 2: "Yeah and pigs can fly"

Imagine christmas where you'd actually have to pay to get something
Guess not.

I'd love to be able to 'wrap' Putrid Cysts and hand them out as gifts to people on Wintersday!

Oh, and /signed with the designation that it says "Gift from" or "Gift to" or has a different color than Birthday or Holiday presents, or is otherwise distinguishable from ANet presents.
/signed!

I was thinking the grab bag idea too after reading this. Just think, you could hold a grab bag party among your guildies. I definity agree with people on allowing the user to costumize the appearance of the gifts. I think the Npc that allows you to wrap the "item" should give you a big selection of various skins and colors to pick from for your preasent. Like if I want to wrap something up for a grab bag for guildies I'd want it to have a "Bag" skin. If i wanted to give someone a halloween gift, i'd want it to look like the wintersday gift except black and orange.

For an additional cost you should also be allowed to add "To:" and "From:" as a mouseover effect on the gift.

There's a lot Anet could do with this, Make it happen this year for wintersday A-net!

wow neat idea

/signed under 1 condition - make it apparent that people wrapped it instead of birthday gift... say distinguish them like "Wrapped present" vs "Birthday present"

You could even add an 'opening' animation, something like mixing an emote and and efect like Squash Serum + Dance.

The characer crouche, the box appear, and the item makes a 'falling to the ground' animetion (but it really will be in the character inventory xD)

OK I admit this is a thread necromancy but the idea is marvellous and I think it could be brought back for the people who joined GURU recently for a discussion.

Of course a big /signed from me

I would use presents in some guild lotteries etc. There would be so many uses of them...

Nobody will be stupid enough to buy expensive stuff in gift wrapping. If someone will get scammed...they deserve it.

/signed. Let us dye the presents, too. Just so people will buy orange, purple, green, yellow, and blue dyes and I can finally sell them out of my storage.

I like it. It'd be nice to drop my GW friends from other countries a little gift, and exchange online presents with friends. Have a good laugh and all that. XD
